Child Safety Policy

1. Purpose

Chauhans is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We recognise our responsibility to ensure that all interactions remain safe, appropriate, and in line with UK safeguarding standards.

This policy reflects principles established under:

  • The Children Act 1989 and Children Act 2004
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government guidance)
  • General safeguarding best practices recognised by organisations such as the NSPCC

2. Definition of a Child

For the purposes of this policy, a “child” is any individual under the age of 18.

3. Safeguarding Position

Chauhans operates as a professional tailoring service and does not provide services that involve direct physical contact with children. In order to maintain strict safeguarding boundaries:

  • We do not conduct physical measurements or fittings on individuals under 18.
  • We do not engage in any physical contact with children in the course of providing services.

This approach is adopted as a preventative safeguarding measure.

4. Parental/Guardian Responsibility

Where services are required for a child, a parent or legal guardian must take full responsibility for:

  • Taking and submitting measurements
  • Placing and managing the order
  • Ensuring the suitability of the garment

By submitting measurements, the parent/guardian confirms:

  • They have lawful authority to act on behalf of the child
  • The information provided is accurate
  • They consent to Chauhans using the measurements to provide services

5. Consent and Supervision

  • All transactions relating to individuals under 18 must be carried out by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Children are not permitted to attend the Chauhans premises under any circumstances. All dealings must be conducted directly between a parent or legal guardian and Chauhans.

6. Professional Boundaries

To ensure safeguarding compliance:

  • Staff will maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.
  • Any request involving direct measurement or fitting of a child will be declined.

7. Liability

  • Chauhans shall not be liable for inaccuracies in measurements provided by parents or guardians.
  • Additional alterations required due to incorrect measurements may incur additional charges.

8. Reporting Concerns

While Chauhans is not a regulated safeguarding body, we take concerns seriously. If any safeguarding concern arises:

  • We reserve the right to refuse service
  • Where appropriate, concerns may be reported to relevant authorities in line with UK safeguarding guidance

9. Compliance with Law

This policy is designed to align with UK safeguarding legislation and guidance. Nothing in this policy limits or excludes any statutory rights or obligations.
