Child Safety Policy

The safeguarding rules and professional boundaries that apply when a service relates to a person under the age of 18.

1. Purpose

Chauhans is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We recognise our responsibility to keep interactions safe, appropriate, and consistent with UK safeguarding standards.

This policy reflects principles found in:

  • The Children Act 1989 and Children Act 2004
  • Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government guidance)
  • General safeguarding practice recognised by organisations such as the NSPCC

2. Definition of a Child

For this policy, a “child” means any person under the age of 18.

3. Safeguarding Position

Chauhans provides professional tailoring services and does not offer services involving direct physical contact with children. To maintain clear safeguarding boundaries:

  • We do not physically measure or fit anyone under the age of 18.
  • We do not have physical contact with children when providing our services.

This is a preventative safeguarding measure.

4. Parent or Guardian Responsibility

If tailoring services are required for a child, a parent or legal guardian is responsible for:

  • Taking and supplying the measurements
  • Placing and managing the order
  • Ensuring that the finished garment is suitable

By supplying measurements, the parent or guardian confirms that they are legally authorised to act for the child, that the information supplied is accurate, and that they consent to Chauhans using the measurements to provide the requested service.

5. Consent and Supervision

  • Any transaction relating to a person under 18 must be handled by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Children are not permitted to attend the Chauhans premises under any circumstances. All dealings must take place directly between Chauhans and the parent or legal guardian.

6. Professional Boundaries

  • Staff will maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.
  • Any request for the direct measurement or fitting of a child will be refused.

7. Liability

  • Chauhans is not responsible for inaccuracies in measurements supplied by a parent or guardian.
  • If incorrect measurements result in further alterations being required, additional charges may apply.

8. Reporting Concerns

Chauhans is not a regulated safeguarding body, but safeguarding concerns are taken seriously.

  • We may refuse a service where appropriate.
  • Where necessary, a concern may be reported to the relevant authorities in line with UK safeguarding guidance.

9. Compliance with Law

This policy is intended to align with UK safeguarding legislation and guidance. It does not limit or exclude statutory rights or legal obligations.
